THOSE WHO CREATE SOMETHING

SELFMADE Men's Hair Artist

Noah Siaris

Aiea, Hawai'i

How’s it going! My name is Noah. I am a men’s hairstylist living in Honolulu, Hawai'i. I found my passion in cutting hair 6 years ago and I love putting a smile on each one of my clients’ faces as they leave my chair. I watch a lot of anime — my favorite is One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen. I have a great appreciation for all genres of music (except country, no offense). I also love fashion and shoes!

What does a Selfmade Men's Hair Artist do?

I have the ability to make people look and feel their best by finding a hairstyle that enhances their features and compliments their lifestyle. Doing hair allows me to tap into my creative self and it fills me with joy to know that i was able to make someone’s day. For many people, a trip to the barber is simply a routine task. They sit in the chair, get their hair cut, and leave. But for me, being a barber is so much more than that. It's a passion, an art, and a way to connect with people on a deeper level.

CREATIVE • INNOVATIVE • PERSONABLE

Top 3 — Why do you love being a Selfmade Men's Hair Artist?

Hair is art

Doing hair allows me to create. I’ve always been into art — did a lot of graffiti in high school, and when I put my hands on the clippers, I realized that cutting hair is also considered an art!

Building relationships

I am also very grateful for the relationships I have created in the chair with my clients. Sitting in the chair is almost like a therapy session in a way, where we are able to hold a safe space for people to open up and be themselves. Your network is your net worth!

Discovering myself

Growing up, I have always considered myself as introverted, and cutting hair has enabled me to burst out of my shell and show people who I really am. That has got be the biggest blessing about stepping into this industry.

What motivates / inspires you?

My late father and my girlfriend who is also a hairstylist are my biggest motivators. Being a part of a creative community is so motivating and fun, i like to surround myself with like-minded individuals because it pushes me to grow and perform at my highest potential at all times! It’s a very humbling feeling to know that I’m in a position where i can inspire others in the industry and also the younger generations that sit in my chair. It makes me feel like i can make a difference and also gives me purpose. What drives my inspiration is travel, art and nature.

What are you most proud of?

One of the accomplishments i can be proud of is winning a barber battle back in 2021! Besides that, I am proud of myself for going against adversity since a young age and finding my passion & purpose. Being in the industry pushes me to never stop growing. I am currently working on overcoming my greatest weakness, public speaking. Stepping out of my comfort zone again, I would like to hold classes and educate people who want to further their education into cutting hair. I stand by the quote: “You need to become comfortable being uncomfortable, because that is the only way you grow!”

What was your first dream job?

Before finding my calling, i wanted to pursue my dad's dream to become an architect.

What other path would you have taken if not this one?

If I didn’t pick up the clippers 6 years ago, I would probably still be in the restaurant industry. I really did not know what i wanted to do prior to finding my passion in cutting hair.

What would you tell your younger self?

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Stop comparing yourself to others and just be YOU!
