Hi! I'm Krystal.
I'm a mom to two digital natives and the founder of Selfmade Something in Honolulu, Hawai'i. (Also: the girl in the photo.)
To me, Selfmade Something is more than just an elevated toy shop. At the core, it is a love letter to my inner child. As a second-gen Filipina American, I ventured into my first career as a registered nurse, because it seemed like the natural choice. 12 years into my nursing career, motherhood threw me a curveball, leading me to leave that path (and my yoga teacher side hustle) behind.
Fortunately, this transition helped me realize untapped skills and creative potential. With an eye for design and a passion for sourcing quality products, I found joy in discovering playthings for my littles that are not only safe and fun but also intentionally designed, long-lasting, and educational. Did I mention I homeschooled my kids for 5 years?
As a mom, I want my kids to have every opportunity to explore their own interests and follow their passions. It was my own experience that helped me understand that you can do or become anything you want, and it's even okay to change your mind. The possibilities are endless! It was this realization that gave life to Selfmade Something. My story is only one of many.

At Selfmade Something, we celebrate play, encourage screen breaks, making core memories, and pursuing one's dreams. This digital age leaves little room for screen-free play. We aim to make play fun again.
While history is filled with inspiring figures, at Selfmade Something, we're focused on the present. Our concept features handpicked self-made individuals through a thriving community of role models IRL who share their inspiring stories and live their dreams today.
Our small shop curates a collection of well-designed, meaningful products that inspire creativity. Our collection encourages purposeful, imaginative play and exploration. You won't find your favorite TV characters here. We leave that to the big guys.

As children grow, so does our commitment to the planet. Our shop is consciously curated with this in mind. We believe sharing is caring, so we do our best to source reusable, long-lasting, or recyclable items, saving money, space and the planet.
