Aloha! I'm Mariah — a marine biologist, shark conservationist, and ocean lover. I am a professional shark safety diver on Oahu for One Ocean Diving. I love being able to teach people about sharks and why they're so important to us and to our ocean.

What does a Selfmade Marine Biologist do?

I'm a student of the ocean and everything inside of it. I am constantly learning new things every day. My favorite thing is to just be in the ocean, observing the beauty of all the animals inside it.

Learning about the ocean is amazing and it can teach us so many things.

What motivates / inspires you?

My parents have always been my biggest supporters and I thank them every day for always pushing me to be the best Marine Biologist I can be. I grew up in a small beach town and I've always been close to the ocean, so I've always wanted to help protect it.

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of being a teacher and role model. I love being able to inspire the next generation and be able to teach them as well. Watching their eyes light up with the same love that I have for the ocean and sharks is priceless!
